Who we are

The Readers' Collective exists to foster a lifelong love of reading and celebrate childhood—its curiosity, creativity, and endless wonder. Our mission is grounded in reading, art, and nature, three roots that help children grow into thoughtful, imaginative, and connected human beings.

Through stories, hands-on creativity, and time spent outdoors, children discover who they are and how they connect with the world around them. Our community gatherings are intentionally designed to be simple, joyful, and enriching for both kids and parents.

We are proud to be a nonprofit organization in Michigan, currently pending 501(c)(3) approval as we continue growing our mission.

Meet the Hearts Behind the Collective

Founder

Madelyn Perez

Madelyn created The Readers' Collective to build the kind of community she wanted for her own children as they started homeschooling. One rooted in connection, creativity, and curiosity. She is also a holistic health practitioner and lactation educator, a mom to three, and happiest when spending time outdoors.

Secretary

Rachel Erhart

Rachel is a former public school English teacher who knows the importance of early exposure to reading! She is new to the U.P. and eager to connect with other families when she starts homeschooling her two children. Rachel is also a birth doula and midwife assistant and hopes to become a licensed midwife in the future.

Treasurer

Lexi Fernandez

Lexi brings a spark of creativity to The Readers' Collective. She’s the author of a children’s book focused on social and emotional learning and she is passionate about creating a space where children can thrive! Outside of The Readers' Collective she is a wife and event planner who loves cozy moments at home with her family.
